An institute presenting a process skill approach to inquiry
Opportunity for Middle and High School Teachers
Thursday and Friday, June 26 and 27, 2008 Monday-Wednesday, June 30-July 2, 2008 9:00AM – 3:00PM
This institute is designed to provide strategies for organizing and implementing science and engineering inquiry/projects in middle and high school classrooms.Participants will learn how to help students:
vDevelop an appropriate experimental question/topic
vConduct background research
vDesign a valid experiment
vRecord and analyzed data
vDraw conclusion
vPresent results

Through discussions, activities, speakers, demonstrations and samples of student work, teachers will:
vConnect inquiry with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
vModify existing labs to increase opportunities for classroom inquiry
vExperience inquiry firsthand
vNetwork with other teachers currently using inquiry in the classroom
vDevelop assessment tools
In addition, teachers will receive the following information:
vStrategies for guiding students through the science fair process
vHow to organize a school science fair/exhibit
Who:Teams of 2 or more teachers from schools/districts are strongly encouraged.

When:June 26, 27 and June 30, July 1-2, 9:00AM – 3:00PM
Cost:$50.00 (per individual)$75.00 (per team)

Graduated Credit: 3 credits will be available from Worcester State College. PDP’s will be awarded.
